Rey Crespo & His Raíces Vivas
Modern Ska / Latin Fusion Project
Introduction
Ska Latino is an innovative music project created in June 2025 by Rey Crespo, recognised for his work as musical director of Ska Cubano and other bands in the United Kingdom. The project aims to redefine ska by integrating Caribbean and Latin American musical elements with a contemporary sound.
Musical Concept
Ska Latino blends traditional ska rhythms with Caribbean styles such as son, mambo and bolero, alongside broader Latin American influences. The result is a fresh sound that combines modern arrangements, current production, and deep respect for musical roots.
Influences
Inspired by iconic artists such as Benny Moré, Pérez Prado and Miguel Matamoros, the project draws from rich melodic and rhythmic traditions while developing original compositions.
First Releases
The project debuted with reinterpretations of Cuban classics: 'Donde estabas tú' and 'Buenos hermanos', both reimagined through a modern ska lens.
Artistic Proposal
Featuring strong brass sections, energetic grooves, ska-driven guitars and contemporary production. The project connects traditional sounds with new audiences.
Objectives
Revitalise Latin classics, create a unique sound identity, expand to new audiences and establish an international presence.
Future Vision
New releases, international festivals and a full-length album.
